Aims & Scope

The Pan-African Journal of Health and Psychological Sciences (PAJHPS) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal committed to publishing high-quality research, theoretical analyses, clinical studies, and policy-relevant scholarship in public health, psychology, mental health, and allied health sciences.

PAJHPS prioritizes Africa-led, culturally grounded, and contextually relevant research while maintaining global relevance. The journal welcomes submissions from researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and academics worldwide.

Scope includes but is not limited to:

  • Public health systems, disease prevention, and health promotion
  • Mental health, psychological wellbeing, and behavioral interventions
  • Trauma, resilience, and psychosocial support
  • Indigenous knowledge, traditional healing, and cultural approaches to health
  • Community psychology and psychosocial interventions
  • Health systems, governance, and policy analysis
  • Allied health education and workforce development
  • Global and comparative health and psychological sciences

Article Types

PAJHPS publishes the following categories of scholarly work:

  • Original Research Articles

  • Editorials, Commentaries, and Letters to the Editor

Book Chapters (Special Collections Only):
PAJHPS publishes peer-reviewed book chapters exclusively as part of special collections or edited volumes aligned with the journal’s aims and scope. These chapters undergo double-blind peer review, are clearly labeled as Book Chapters, and are published with individual Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs). Book chapters are not included in regular journal issues.

Peer Review Policy

All research and review submissions undergo double-blind peer review by at least two independent reviewers. Editorials, commentaries, and letters are editorially reviewed but are not peer-reviewed. The journal is committed to transparency, integrity, and timely decision-making.

Open Access Policy

PAJHPS is fully open access. All published articles are freely available online without subscription or payment barriers, promoting equitable access to knowledge. Authors retain copyright and grant the journal the right of first publication.

DOI Policy

All articles and book chapters published in PAJHPS are assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) via Crossref. This ensures that each publication is permanently identifiable, citable, and discoverable online. Authors are encouraged to use the DOI when citing PAJHPS publications.

Copyright and Licensing

All published content is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY), unless otherwise indicated. This allows users to freely share and adapt content, provided proper attribution is given to the original authors. Authors retain full copyright while granting PAJHPS a non-exclusive license to publish their work.

Ethical Standards

PAJHPS adheres to international ethical guidelines for research involving humans and animals, including the Declaration of Helsinki. Submissions must include:

  • Ethical approval from a recognized review board
  • Informed consent statements (where applicable)

The journal enforces strict policies on plagiarism, data integrity, and conflicts of interest.

Archiving and Preservation

To ensure long-term access, PAJHPS participates in the LOCKSS and CLOCKSS archival systems, guaranteeing permanent preservation of all published content.

The journal is supported by internal resources and volunteer academic contributions from the African Alliance for Research, Advocacy and Innovation (AARAI).
